Americans drink more than 400 million cups of coffee each day. Few of us think about the journey those little coffee beans take from the jungle to our lips, especially when we’re in need of a morning caffeine fix. But Phil Beattie, a coffee buyer, thinks about it all the time. A new CNBC documentary follows him to a Peruvian rainforest where he gets his beans from trees that take about 5 years to bear fruit. It takes two months and 4,000 miles before they are eventually be sold for $14.70 per pound.
